TAMANG LANGUAGE (FONT/SCRIPT)
I am a Tamang Boy and Don't Know Tamang Language. I have seen most tamang people don't know their language. I haven't got any relevant books regarding Tamang Language and its Font/Script from which we could do practice to speak our language. So anybody do know that that is there is available books to improve language and i do like to see the font/script of our language. If we don't have our Script we have to make it as possible and to search the same.

hi brother, quite happy to know your interest to know and learn our language. First of all i would like to correct you that still large number of tamang people of tamangs speak their mother tongue. A handful of tamangs (out of estimated 50 lakh tamangs) do not speak mother tongue. We have our established script called ' taamyig' which is almost similiar to tibetan or Dzongkha (bhutanese script). Recently a good number of tamang authors have come foreward to publish tamang text books(school books) and dictionaries making us easier to learn and speak. You can order or buy one of those books authored by KM Titung, Gangtok( Sikkim). Recently one more publication has come to the market. It is 'Nepali-Tamang-English Sabdakosh" authored by H K Kalden, Sinzee, Kalimpong(Darjeeling). It is an excellent book for beginners. If you can send your postal address i can send this book to you. We are expecting many more Tamang Speaking Course Books in th coming days. Good Luck!

I too dont no the langage but eager to learn it and to knw many more abt tamang cultures. Sir Nirmal had given a gud knwledge abt the books. But i will cross some words to Sir Nirmal that in India only 25% knws the language due to minority. If we search tamang outside West Bengal & Sikkim, we will find Tamang people bt less in number. Lets take my example. m from Assam, a small village known as N.K Darranga, Dist:- Baksa (BTAD). We r only 5 families. Around 12km, there are only four families. So, due to lack of people in india except west bengal & sikkim cant speak our language. Tamang people of metropolitian city of india speak the local language or national language. But its just opposite in Nepal, I hope 90% tamang people speak tamang language bcoz maximum tamang people in facebook write tamang languge in their profile. They learnt it due to majority. Its not the matter of majority and minority. Its the matter of saving our language by any means of communications. If the TamangSamaj add a button in their website for Tamang language, thn it will b vry easy to learn it and distribute it to interested tamang people. I think so this is the right solution to learn language in minority place. Sir John Titung if we write our thar nobody will recognise us accept tamang people. One incident happen with my brother in Assam, we got obc in assam. He want to get the certificate from the office. he wrote yonjan instead of tamang. The non tamang officer ask r u from bhutan. We have nvr heard such kind of caste in my life n he didnt made it also. Jst u imagine y did he ask. If the officer would b tamang, he would nt b ask stupid question. If we write tamang instead of lama and thar, it will b easy to count the population of tamang of a state. As we knw lama and tamang is different. Tamang is known all over the world as a caste but not lama. All the world know lama as a monk not tamang. If any mistake correct me. Thank you....
@#tamangmanikumar, a few suggestion for enrichment of knowledge 1.All over the world Tamang is known as Tribal (tribe) community and not as cast, 2. In India National commission for Schedule tribes and National commission for Shedule cast two different commission exist for the tribe and cast separetly, 3.anyway for counting in the state, u can engged urself coz by 1st Dec a census wil undertake to acertain the community wise population by the govt. This kind of census is only after 1932. It doesn't matter wateve ur surname or title but ur response in the community coloum should be Tamang only. 4.whoever if one is Tamang in facebook or inother then write Tamang Language as Mother Tongue ,whether u can speak or not,ofcourse u can write othe in language known 5.Majority or Minority in number does not hamper that much but the influence of other culture should not take ur house.for example one Asheng used to reside along with wife and two childeren of 7 and 12 yrs in Bangaluru where no other Tamang family used to reside nearby.they use to speak Tamang language even the kids who was born their itself.my point is don't getinside house the culture others , 6.one point which i like most is ur 'saving our language by any means' u can help and cantact Assam Tamang Buddhist Association (ATBA) assamtamang@gmail.com which is working in a project in this direction, i hope in next 5 to 10 yrs everything wil be visible to everyone.
