Being Lama we can be proud to be a tamang. There is no harm in it. Lama also belong to Tamangs not Tibetan or Bhutias alone. Tamang ma Lamakhor haroolay paramparagat lama lekthiyo ab sabailay lekhccha. Khusikoko kooro I do not see any diference. Be it tibetan or sherpa or Bhutia or Drukpa or Monpa or tamang or lepcha or ladakhi. we all belong to same species. recently dna test was carried by scientists among all above communities . It revealed the same. Infact we are the same same people living in different geographical positions with the same language,religion, customs and rituals. There is only a slight variations due to environmental and political differences. Infact Tibetans or Bhutias or Lepchas or Drukpas or Monpas or ladakhis or etc, no body writes Lama as their titles. It is the only tamangs who write Lama as title. So be proud to be Lama as Tamangs. Infact we should request tamangs not to write Gurung as tITLE. THOUSANDS OF TAMANGS or may be lakhs have converted into gurungs so far. This is the reason why the population of Tamangs have gone down so drastically. My sincere request all those who have been writing Gurungs as their titles is that they should write the titles of their offsprings as Tamang or Lama. These two words are same in todays history. Do not destroy the Tamang dynasty for the shake of mere darwangiri.

Please try to understand tamang kool. Nepal is our motherland. Sounds bit offensive. Tamangs new only yambu not nepal. Our forefathers untill last generation had never accepted they were living in Nepal. And those who love their kool do not accept nepal as our motherland. Especially i do not do so. It is this generation's so called qualified and civilised tamangs who have accepted Nepal as their motherland as they have forgotten they were invaded, suppressed and subjugated. Mr killbees i would like to remind that we are the first generation educated tamang people. To quote, my aakhey, maam, aapa and aama all were simple, honest, obliged, sincere, down to earth total illieterate human beings. They wrote their title as Lamas so we followed in their documents. There was no hyprocricy, diplomacy or politics in it as they were so innocent people. The Lama title was inheritated by us from them. Somebody has written about how, and when tmangs have started writing Lama as title. I think you would be convinced by reading those books. my request inspite of your busy schedule please give sometime to read and find out our unique history before jumping into conclusion.

no wrong in writing lama, many have been writing so. Since when we started writing lama surname, for that to say correctly now seems difficult the agreed view and fact is , it was started when our fathers were persecuted by the hindu kings, were denied rights and oppressed. To gain some space,respect then many of our forefathers started writing lama, but it may be very true that some Tamangs were already writing lama as surname before that,therefore we can say use of lama surname increased after the hindu rule and oppression started.
No wrong in writing lama, but writing Tamang is better. But Bhotay baiting must stop, speaking ill about bhotays must stop , we are too referred to as bhotays by those fellows. A kind of derogatory title given by jhardi and others.
This is jhardi trap , don't fall into that, Tibetans are good, bhotay well , to jhardis we are all bhotays... So we are. So, don't go by jhardi talk, the fellows have problem with bhotay, we don,t have. tibetams are good to us we are good to them, now who is closer to whom , it depends on who regards as what, tamang and gurung language is related,sherpa is related, yalmo is close, tibetan is the main language, developed one,very much related to tamang, thakali related, So

Well.....I agree with some of you here. One should take pride in yourself and who you are but YOU SHOULD NOT DEMEAN or DISGRACE others. I write LAMA and i like it. My father used to write it, my grandfather, great grandfather...everyone used to write LAMA so what's wrong with it??? All you need to be is a TAMANG within yourself and be there for one another rather than talking about what surname one should write. I don't think it's fair to be calling people bhote & talking mean about them. Brush up your manners first then talk about your tribe!!!!

Opinion express here on the topic are all fancy except one or two, without knowing the basic of Tamang History, i feel every one should come up wit valid reason interpreting the writen history of surname in the prespective of indigenousTribal History particularly Tamang ,a comprehensive knowledge should be their within the person while writing,i hope then the objective of hiding name or fake name with abusive comment wil come to halt.
Here lots of crosswords whether we r lama or tamang. Its hearing like to follow whether dasai or Losar. If our young n literate generation can understn vry well abt wat to celebrate, thn y lots of confussion nw. As we knw Tamang is inbuilt Buddhism. It was vry difficult to leave dasai bt ultimately tamang leave it. So y nt lama. All over the world knws as tamang nt lama. Tamang is improving fast like a developing gadgets. Y lots of confusion. In simple sense, We knw very well wata lama is. Lama means monk those who have got the full knowledge of religion. hami k vanchu, lamai lie bulaunu parcha gheba yah puja ko laagi not tamang. In short lama is known as monk all over the world nt tamang. Some1 hve said my forefathers were writing lama, y nt we. R they really lama those who do gheba and puja. I meant to say that our forefathers were forced to follow dasai, nw we r nt following. Our forefathers were using lama, nw we have to write tamang. Tamang is a caste n lama is a pujari. All tamang cannot be lama bt all lama can be a tamang or may not b. About 85% of tamang will support tamang not lama. So we have to b wth majority. If u say m lama. Automatically the question will appear wat lama r u? Sherpa lama, lepcha lama, bhutnese lama etc n other question will be why r u not wearing lama dress. As i got in a book that lama is a designation. They get it after completion of their studies like Lama Tshering Tamang. If we do Phd we get Designation as Doctor Tshering Tamang, as we do law, we get designated by Lawyer Tshering Tamang etc. Finally, i came to the conclusion that Tamang is Tamang and lama is lama. Lama can b tamang bt tamang cannot b lama until he or she gets designation. If we write tamang as our surname, it will b easy to count the population of tamang families....
