Festivals (chhiju) of Tamang
Hello everyone!
I'm seriously interested in traditional Tamang festivals, especially Chuwa Chhiju. 2 years ago around November i met a number of colourfully dressed people returning from an area somewhere above Trisuli where they apparently danced for two previous days, and observed a shaman performing what seemed to be a general blessing ceremony in Syabru. However, i arrived too late to actually see the festival. Hence the questions:
1) Was this Chuwa Chhiju? If not - what's the name of this festival and what is Chuwa Chhiju like?
2) What are the dates and locations of this and other Tamang festivals in 2010?
3) Can you tell me some details - origin, meaning, purpose of rituals performed and so on - about those festivals? Some of them definitely look more shamanic than Buddhist.

I GUESS IT MIGHT BE CHEY_CHU WHICH MEANS THE 10TH DAY OF THE LUNAR CALENDER....BUT I AM NOT SURE...
THERE ARE MANY RITUAL PRACTICES AROUND RASUWA DISTRICT SOME ARE CELEBRATED BY THE WHOLE TAMANG PEOPLE AND THERE ARE SOME WHICH ARE CELEBRATED BY ONE VILLAGE ONLY AND IN SOME CASE ONLY BY ONE HOUSEHOLD..
SHAMANISM AND BUDDHISM WORKS TOGETHER..WE ARE NOT BUDDHIST LIKE THE TIBETAN, I THINK WE ARE ONLY ONE STEP AHEAD FROM THE SHAMANISM TOWARDS BUDDHISM.

ohh chheju is mainly celebrate in salme,nuwakot which is located in the down boarder side of rasuwa.on magh for 8 or 9 days in this day many people came to join here.inside this festival there is large history ,...so ....we celebrate it on yearly....
